Music carries the power to lift us up when we're down or accentuate the beauty in life when we're happy. Music can imbibe a moment with meaning or stick to a memory in the most lasting manner. I prefer to use music to build me up when I'm low, and there's nothing better to turn my attitude around than some straight-up girl power music. Whether you're in a slump or already on top of the world, a sick beat, a powerful female vocalist, and badass lyrics can really take you to the next level.

Everyone should celebrate their inner rebel and to help you along with said celebration, here are 19 songs every badass woman needs in her life (and in her Spotify library). While this is not a list of feminist songs, per se, you'll probably notice quite a bit of overlap with 'girl power' and 'feminist' songs. Funny how the songs that get me the most pumped are also the ones that celebrate girl power and fierce femininity. Whether you're trying to drag yourself out of bed or dance on top of the bar, these songs are perfect to make you feel like the badass you know you can be. So crank up your speakers and prepare to feel like a boss because these songs are sure to get you turned up.

  • BTS teamed up with The Chainsmokers on this 2017 song, a lightly bubbling piece of EDM-pop in which they're taken by surprise by love and swear to give their partner only 'the best of me'.
  • No matter what you do, you can't seem to pull yourself from up out of the slumps. I know that pain. As an aspiring music journalist, I've found the best medicine to remedy any case of the blue's is an upbeat playlist, paired together with some fresh air. Here are 15 songs that might help you create some feel good vibes.
  • Step one complete. Step two is actually picking the right background music for your videos. It's a lot harder than it seems. When you start scrolling through songs, especially in our high quality online music library, it can all feel overwhelming. How do you choose the perfect song? Start by focusing on a single genre of music.

'Flawless (Remix)' - Beyoncé feat. Nicki Minaj

This one needs no explanation. This song is single-handedly responsible for a 100% inflation of my ego.

It is however not so simple to make the music become part of your edit, that's why we're sharing 5 simple tips for you in the video above. To make it yourself easier, look for a dynamic song. A track with many variations, beats, speed changes, perhaps vocals, etcetera. That gives you a lot more to play with in editing.

'Bitch, Better Have My Money' - Rihanna

This is my most current song that I listen to when I want to feel like a hot ass bitch. Featuring one of my biggest vices, hip-hop choreography videos on YouTube. Enjoy, my fellow badasses.

'Feelin' Myself' - Nicki Minaj feat. Beyoncé

There is literally no conceivable way they could be more perfect.

'Can't Pin Me Down' - Marina and the Diamonds

Marina and the Diamonds is my queen and her music never fails to make me feel like I am unstoppable.

'Comme Un Enfant' - Yelle

This girl is like a weirder, French Lady Gaga who doesn't try quite so hard to be avant-garde. Upgrade to el capitan. I have no idea what she's saying but when I blare this through my car speakers, I feel like a badass.

'I'm Legit' - Nicki Minaj

This song is one of Nicki's grossly underrated songs and it is a bad bitch ANTHEM.

'Sheezus' - Lily Allen

During my first year of grad school, I once went a little insane during exams and made a playlist that consisted solely this song and 'Let It Go' from Frozen. The playlist was 120 songs long and consisted of just those songs and I listened to it constantly for, no joke, a straight week. 'Cause this song is badasss. And the other song was from Frozen. Duh.

'Goddess' - Banks

Banks is my ethereal indie goddess.

'Can't Hold Us Down' - Christina Aguilera

Best songs for edits

The O.G. girl power anthem.

'Run The World (Girls)' - Beyoncé

I have seen this music video probably 500 more times than I care to admit.

'Heads Will Roll' - Yeah Yeah Yeahs (A-Trak Remix)

Bluestack portable version. Just try not to dance along with this one.

'Dickhead' - Kate Nash

Dedicated to all the dickheads in your life (though those are hopefully few and far between).

'Talk That Talk' - Rihanna

Good Songs For Fan Edits

One of Rihanna's best (and I think, under-appreciated) songs.

'Bad Girls' - M.I.A.

This song makes me want to strut my stuff every damn time.

'Disparate Youth' - Santigold

Santigold is just a badass in general. All her music could be added to this playlist.

'These Boots Are Made For Walkin'- Nancy Sinatra

A classic girl power anthem.

'Ganga (En Español)' - Kat Dahlia

'Gangsta (En Español)' is the Spanish counterpart to Kat Dahlia's 'Gangsta.' An already badass song, now with a little spice.

'I'm Out' - Ciara feat. Nicki Minaj

This. Song. Is. So. Dope.
